Nissan Pulsar GTiR (in Australia) Last updated 08-Nov-2003 This was my 1991 Nissan Pulsar GTiR, 171kW, (230hp) all wheel drive, back in early 1997. I bought it in October 1996. Incredible grunt for a small car. These cars run 0-100kph in 5.9 secs and 0-400mt in 13.9 secs in standard form. Very easy to drive, plenty of torque, great gearshift and excellent throttle response due to quad butterfly intake manifold which is music to the ears when accelerating through the gears. Has all mod cons such as climate control air, power windows, mirrors (foldaway too!), great sports seats with 4 way adjustment, leather wheel, gear knob and even a built in umbrella ! Due to the number of cars I have and the ability to drive only one at a time, I had to sell my GTiR in early 1998. It had done only 44,000 km, with 12,000 in my hands. It was fully Australian complianced (by Protech Developments). I've been told that compliancing this type of vehicle now can cost up to $12,000. Protech also sell these cars, if anyone is interested. (I have no connection with them, by the way) In Australia, compliancing of imported cars, means bringing them up to the applicable Australian design rule standards and must be done, before an import can be registered. Frequently Asked Questions:- Where can I get one? Protech Developments in Melbourne or maybe Oriental Express Motors in Richmond (Melbourne) or private sales. How much do they cost? When i bought mine, Complianced and registered, about Aust. $25,000 to $30,000 Update late 2003. Price range ange has probably fallen to about $16 - $20,000 Can I import one myself? Yes, but logistically
it would be difficult unless you have contacts in Japan. You also need
the appropriate import certificate in Australia. See this site for details.

Then you need to get it complianced, by Protech. Are they all black ? No, but most seem to be. There is also grey, blue, white, green and red. What about parts? Again Protech, or your local Nissan dealer should have Microfiche with GTIR parts. How fast are they? See above but apparently computer upgrade to over 325hp is easy. Then it would be awesome! What about an upgrade? A 3" exhaust system & boost set to 11psi is said to give another 40hp What fuel do they use? Mine only tolerated Premium Unleaded. Are they economical? No, at about 24mpg, mainly freeway use. (200SX gives 32mpg) Are they noisy? Yes, it is a noisy car to drive, but it's a "nice" noise !!! Do people still rally them? Yes, but I understand that their main shortcoming is that they are a bit front heavy and have too much front overhang. Where do you get it insured? Try Shannon's or RACV if over 25 years old! Otherwise, drive VERY carefully. Where do you get a Service manual for them? Hope you have plenty of money! These are the details on the back of the manuals... Contact: Bret Shadwell 56 Bonds Road, Punchbowl NSW 2196 Australia Ph: 61 2 9740 6766 for manuals. Thanks to Chris and Carolyn for purchasing info. Steve, from Sydney, has my GTiR registered in NSW with suitable GTIR custom plates I believe. 9/9/98 Steve got married too ! (My Victorian GTIR00 plates now reside on another black GTiR in Melbourne)
